I have been working as a teaching artist and community-based arts advocate in Washington DC since 1999. My studio practice includes a range of mediums primarily focused on weaving, printmaking, drawing and mixed media. Along with exhibiting in various galleries and private collections, my work was published in a book of poetry entitled A Clinician’s Guide to the Soul by Veneta Masson (Sage Femme Press, © 2007). In addition to my studio practice, I teach and collaborate to create strong, insightful, and accessible art projects and community-based opportunities. For nearly 25 years, I was the founder, director and fiber arts teacher of New Community ArtSpace, an art program for all ages in the Shaw neighborhood. I managed the DC Creates Public Art Program at the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities for 8 years, where I worked to integrate small and large-scale public art projects to indoor and outdoor public spaces. I am currently the early childhood visual arts teacher at Capital City Public Charter School. I studied art at Guilford College in Greensboro, NC along with Santa Reparata in Florence, Italy, The University of Cape Coast in Ghana, and Pyramid Atlantic in Hyattsville, MD.
In 2011, I became a mother which has been incredibly influential in my art practice.
It is likely I am eating corn chips, doing laundry, running through the forest, or trying to locate a missing treasure with my husband and two kids somewhere in DC or thereabouts. It’s not likely I am meditating, but I want to.
